But Philippine libraries ought to follow this trend. Maybe I should write a post on something like – “Twitter 101 for Philippine Libraries”, or “Web 2.0 101 for Philippine Librarians.” Yeah, maybe someday, when I finally have a free time.

Anyway, if you’re into Twitter and you would like to know which libraries you can possibly follow, here is the list of U.S. libraries using Twitter, and here is the list of International Libraries.

And if you are on Twitter, you might want to follow me -> @aczafra and be prepared to be spammed with updates on my Tech writings.

Well, it might have taken them that long to have their own YouTube channel, but they may have done it the right way. The Library of Congress has just made public its own YouTube Channel. YouTube must be feeling lucky by now. I could just imagine the hits this channel will be getting from the library crowd, and even the public in general. Anyway, here’s what LOC said about its YouTube Channel:

Timeless treasures and contemporary presentations from the Library of Congress in Washington, D.C. As the world’s preeminent reservoir of knowledge, we are the steward of millions of recordings dating from the earliest Edison films to the present. In addition, we sponsor events, lectures and concerts that are free and open to the public.

You can read the announcement here.

Libraries, it’s our turn.

And while you’re at it, you might want to check out the “featured blograrians” which she gave as an example during a talk she gave recently. Incidentally this blog was mentioned despite the fact that I rarely post about LIS. But Thanks for the mention Zarah!

Librarians who are against the Google Book Project may not find this useful. But for those who have embraced the new web, the Google Book Search API is certainly a welcome development. What can the Google Book Search API do? It lets you put a link in your library catalog entries that points to an item’s information in Google Book Search. And why would you want to point your users to the Google Book Search portal? To let your users preview the book no matter where the users are currently located while browsing your catalog. Of course, there’s a prerequisition here that libraries who want to use the API must have their library catalogs on the web already.

To see the Google Book Search API in action, check out this list of libraries who have implemented the API in their library catalog:

At a local public library:

Deschutes Public Library (Oregon)

While searching the catalog of a university library:

Just attended a forum sponsored by my alumni association (UPLSAA) on Web 2.0. The speaker was Jonas de los Reyes of Yehey.com’s ecommerce unit. Jonas is also a blogger and a very active one, unlike me.Anyway, Jonas was able to give a background on what web 2.0 is all about and most of the things he talked about is what I expected his talk would be. It was a good lecture, but I doubt if the attendees were able to grasp the concept and how it can be applied to the library setting. There were some bloggers and in some little ways are aware of the current condition of the web. But for the majority, I doubt if they ever heard about Web 2.0 at all.

Now there lies the problem. Jonas obviously know his craft when it comes to Web 2.0, but he was not able to relate Web 2.0 to the library concept, considering that the forum title was “Web 2.0, what’s in it for us?”

Web 2.0 tools and technology is currently being used by librarians and libraries abroad. One just have to Google “web 2.0 libraries” and there’s a lot of literature, examples and what-have-yous relating web 2.0 to libraries, or a more popular term – Library 2.0.

Maybe I should start covering web 2.0 applications in this blog more often. Yeah. that’s a good idea. One library 2.0 post a week would be a good contribution to the library profession, more particularly Philippine librarianship.

Anyway, it was nice meeting one mainstream pinoy blogger during the forum. Hope I get my invites to more pinoy blogging gigs in the future. Thanks Jonas!

The title of this post is dedicated to Juned, a Pinoy librarian blogging at Baratillo and A Feed is Born of b5Media. And this post is dedicated to the fivePinoy blogging librarians who once in a while get featured in Von’s Pinoy Big Biblioblogsphere. These five Pinoy blogging librarians got together this afternoon at A Different Bookstore in Serenda, the Fort to pay tribute to the Godfather of PBB (not Big Brother, but Pinoy Big Biblioblogsphere) Von : -) Ok, let’s get serious now.

This afternoon was the first time I attended an EB of bloggers, to be specific of Pinoy Librarians who are into blogging. It was good to finally have met Zarah, the Coffee Goddess and the School Librarian in Action, Juned of Baratillo fame, long lost friend Igor of Gokitomo, and of course a Filipino Librarian blogger Von. We were joined by Charles a friend of the library world.

There were lots of issues discussed, heated arguments that ensued, but in the end we patched up everything and left the place happy to be part a historic moment in the Philippine Library Scene – the conceptualization of the Pinoy Big Biblioblogsphere Mafia (PBB-M for short).

Visit the blogs of the six people who banded together for more updates about the PBB-M. It’s going to be big, bold, daring, and hot! So watch out for it.

Disclaimer: Some part of this post is serious and some part not. I leave it as challenge to you to determine which is which, which is what.
