It’s been quite awhile since I last own and Android smartphone. It was the Samsung Galaxy S3. I totally skipped the Samsung Galaxy S4 since, I felt that my iPhone 5 was enoug to cover for my smartphone need.
Then, the Samsung Galaxy S5 was announced recently and both Globe and Smart have started accepting pre-orders for the the Galaxy S5 with their respective postpaid plan offerings. Now, I’m seriously considering whether to get one.

There you go, folks! Smart just announced its deal for the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 – Free at Unli Plan 2000. You can reserve your unit now by simply following this link. As to when Smart is planning to release it, we will know for sure in the coming days. So, who’s getting one?
I’ve been reading so many raves about the Galaxy Note 2 especially the dual-window when multi-tasking. Looks like Samsung has a winner again this time. Can’t wait to get my hands on this so-called “phablet.”
Key specs of the Samsung Galaxy Note 2:
- 1.6GHz quad-core processor
- Android 4.1 Jelly Bean
- 5.55 HD Super AMOLED display
- 8MP rear-facing camera
- 1.9MP front-facing
We’ve been hearing about Samsung’s follow-up to the ultra-cool (back then) Galaxy Note smartphone/tablet hybrid introduced not so long ago. And so the Galaxy Note 2 was officially introduced last night at IFA 2012 in Berlin.
People who’ve been waiting for the official announcement immediately went crazy about what Samsung just unveiled. And looking at the specs of the Galaxy Note 2, it seems like a pretty powerful device indeed.
- 5.5? HD Super AMOLED display (1280×720) pixels
- 1.6GHz Exynos quad-core processor
- 2GB of RAM
- 8MP rear camera, 1080p video recording
- 1.9MP front-facing camera

Honestly, the Galaxy Note 2 is not really a pretty exciting device after all. Well, if you own the Galaxy S3 and the original Galaxy Note – you’ll do fine with those two gadgets rather than get the Galaxy Note 2. I mean, it’s just a bigger Galaxy S3 with a stylus and faster processor. If you’re after Jelly Bean, well wait a couple of days more and you’ll have it running on your Galaxy S3.
So, who’s getting the Galaxy Note 2? Words on the streets say that it will be released in the Philippines by November.
Still looking for that perfect case for your beloved Samsung Galaxy S3? You might want to consider this case from Spigen, well known for mobile phone leather cases. The one I have is called the SPIGEN Leather Case Argos Series for Galaxy S3. It retails for around $39.99 from Spigen.com but you can buy it locally from AppleWerkz in Katipunan. (They have another branch in ATC if I’m not mistaken).
The case is made of premium leather and it has a cover for the screen which flips vertically (unlike most cases which has the cover flipping horizontally). It’s very sturdy, sleek-looking and a pleasure to hold.
You can ready my full review here.
For the past couple of days now, I’ve been looking at nearby malls for a nice case that I can use for my Smart Galaxy S3. I was unlucky to find anything yet. A Samsung Mobile store in SM Megamall told me that they recently sold 20 pieces of the official Samsung Flip cover, similar to the Samsung Galaxy Note Flip Cover that came free when I got it.
So my search for the best Samsung Galaxy S3 case continues. Luckily, I just found this one unique case for the Smart Galaxy S3 which is currently on pre-order from MobileFun UK. In terms of features, there’s really nothing to rave about from this Samsung Galaxy S3 case. It’s your usual smartphone case that attaches to the back of your device. Although not indicated on the site, it’s pretty obvious that the case is made of soft, rubber materials.
The case will protect your Samsung Galaxy S3 from the usual bumps and scratches and it seems that it doesn’t make the Galaxy S3 thicker either. This is good and precisely what I’ve been looking for.
But wait, there’s one more special thing about this Samsung Galaxy S3 Case – it has the Android creature embedded on the case. This is perfect for the Galaxy S3 and it comes in cheap as well – at £19.95.
Hopefully, the case becomes available soon not only in the UK but in other countries as well. I’m very much interested in getting this Galaxy S3 case.
Enjoying your Samsung Galaxy S3 (be it the Smart Galaxy S3 or the Globe Galaxy S3) so far? No matter how durable our beloved device is, it still deserves some protection and love. And just like a tradition, you’re probably scouting for a Samsung Galaxy S3 Protector and Samsung Galaxy S3 case right now.
Unfortunately, there is no official Samsung Galaxy S3 accessories available yet. Unlike when the Samsung Galaxy Note was released, Samsung was kind enough to also came up with an official case and cover.
It’s a going thing there are third-party manufacturers around. But since the Samsung Galaxy S3 is fairly new and is not yet available worldwide, it would be a bit harder to find a Samsung Galaxy S3 case. Well, at least in our local mobile phone stores. You can probably find cheap ones in Greenhills but then the Samsung Galaxy S3 is such a premium device that it needs the best protection possible.
To cut a long story short, I scoured the web looking for a Samsung Galaxy S3 case online. There are quite a few of them from Amazon.com but I decided to look around on the SGP store. Luckily I found one – the SGP Crumena leather case for Samsung Galaxy S3.
There’s nothing fancy about the leather case. No special features or whatsoever. But still, the fact that it was made from genuine leather makes this case a must buy. It’s available in black white and brown, so you have three option and any color of the case looks elegant and classy. The inner layer of the case is made from soft material that protects your device from scratches.
The SGP Crumena leather case for Samsung Galaxy S3 retails for $29.99 and it’s available now online from the SGP store.
So finally, after 72 hours of waiting since I got hold of the Samsung Galaxy S3, and after several follow-up tweets with Smart Philippines Twitter account, the new plan that I’ve signed up for was activated. My device is now truly a Smart Galaxy S3 smartphone. So, how is it so far? Well, this is not really the first time that I have a Smart mobile plan. Prior to subscribing with Globe, I use to have a Smart account. But that was decades ago.
Now, I’m back with Smart and enjoying its high-speed connectivity together with the high-processing power of the Smart Galaxy S3. To make an initial assessment of the Smart’s network speed, I check it up using the Speedtest.net Android app. There result below.
As of 5:46 am, Marikina, Antipolo area.
As of 9:35 am, Ortigas, Mandaluyong Area
So far I’m loving the speed that Smart is giving my Smart Galaxy S3. It renders web pages faster than my Globe iPhone 4S. But then of course, the iPhone 4S is on 3G network only. What’s good to note here is that so far, the phone’s signal rarely change to “3G” and remains to be on HSPA+ (H on the phone’s status bar). This means that Smart’s 4G network is getting pretty stable lately.
Right decision to get the Smart Galaxy S3 with Smart unlimited data plan indeed!
