Google unveils the Nexus 7 Tablet, Pricing, Specs Available

Google has just officially joined the tablet wars as it introduced the Google Nexus 7 Tablet! Available now for pre-order on Google Play, the Nexus 7 tablet is scheduled for release mid-July. But sorry folks, it’s not going to be available in the Philippines during that time yet. What else is new? And you can’t check it out either from Google Play since it can only be seen by U.S. and UK banners. So, that means you can’t pre-order the Nexus 7 tablet (yet!) if you’re not in the U.S.

But I’m pretty sure, there will be some work-arounds to get the Google Nexus 7 on the same day as our friends in the U.S. So just be creative if you want to be the first owners of the Nexus 7 tablet. Why bother? There are several reason why. It’s Google’s first foray into the tablet world. The Nexus 7 tablet is almost as cheap as the Kindle Fire with the 8GB version priced at $199.99 and the 16GB model priced at $299.

As for the specs, well they are pretty decent as well and worthy of the price that you have to pay for. Take a look at these:

  • 7-inch 1280×800 HD Backlit IPS Display
  • Scratch-resistant Corning Glass screen
  • 1.2MP front-facing camera
  • 8GB internal storage
  • 1GB of RAM
  • Quad-Core Tegra 3 processor
  • Wi-Fi, Bluetooth
  • 4325 mAh battery
  • NFC, Accelerometer, GPS, Gyroscope, Magnetometer

Looks pretty capable, right? Now, better start doing that work-around to get yourself a Nexus 7 tablet come release date. Good luck!

Apple opens iTunes Store in Several Asian Countries Including the Philippines

Finally, Apple has opened up the iTunes Store in several Asian countries, including the Philippines. Take note, this is the iTunes Store and not just the App Store. This means that you can now purchase songs and movies from the iTunes Store without needing those iTunes card or neither do you need to create a US iTunes account.

The iTunes Store in these Asian countries will also highlight local talents. In our case, several Original Pilipino Music (OPM). Unfortunately as of now, there’s few local artists available yet. Hopefully, in the coming days more music companies will launch their catalogs to the iTunes Store. And this goes out for local film companies.

It would certainly be great to see classic Filipino movies and music become available for our iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch.

To access the Philippines iTunes Store, simply login to iTunes using your Philippines Apple account and you can start buying movies and music using your local credit cards. Have fun!

Android Case for your Smart Galaxy S3

For the past couple of days now, I’ve been looking at nearby malls for a nice case that I can use for my Smart Galaxy S3. I was unlucky to find anything yet. A Samsung Mobile store in SM Megamall told me that they recently sold 20 pieces of the official Samsung Flip cover, similar to the Samsung Galaxy Note Flip Cover that came free when I got it.

So my search for the best Samsung Galaxy S3 case continues. Luckily, I just found this one unique case for the Smart Galaxy S3 which is currently on pre-order from MobileFun UK. In terms of features, there’s really nothing to rave about from this Samsung Galaxy S3 case. It’s your usual smartphone case that attaches to the back of your device. Although not indicated on the site, it’s pretty obvious that the case is made of soft, rubber materials.

The case will protect your Samsung Galaxy S3 from the usual bumps and scratches and it seems that it doesn’t make the Galaxy S3 thicker either. This is good and precisely what I’ve been looking for.

But wait, there’s one more special thing about this Samsung Galaxy S3 Case – it has the Android creature embedded on the case. This is perfect for the Galaxy S3 and it comes in cheap as well – at £19.95.

Hopefully, the case becomes available soon not only in the UK but in other countries as well. I’m very much interested in getting this Galaxy S3 case.

Apple’s Next OS announced, iOS6 available this fall

There you have it Apple fans, expect iOS6 to become available for your iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad this fall (that’s around September, I guess.)

Overall, most of these new features are geared towards pleasing current iOS fans and users and make them stick to iOS. It seems like Apple is not going to offer something interesting enough for loyal Android fans to switch over to iOS. What do you think? Are these features enough to take iOS to new directions?

More details about this can be found here.

SGP Crumena Leather Case for Your Samsung Galaxy S3

Enjoying your Samsung Galaxy S3  (be it the Smart Galaxy S3 or the Globe Galaxy S3) so far? No matter how durable our beloved device is, it still deserves some protection and love. And just like a tradition, you’re probably scouting for a Samsung Galaxy S3 Protector and Samsung Galaxy S3 case right now.

Unfortunately, there is no official Samsung Galaxy S3 accessories available yet. Unlike when the Samsung Galaxy Note was released, Samsung was kind enough to also came up with an official case and cover.

It’s a going thing there are third-party manufacturers around. But since the Samsung Galaxy S3 is fairly new and is not yet available worldwide, it would be a bit harder to find a Samsung Galaxy S3 case. Well, at least in our local mobile phone stores. You can probably find cheap ones in Greenhills but then the Samsung Galaxy S3 is such a premium device that it needs the best protection possible.

To cut a long story short, I scoured the web looking for a Samsung Galaxy S3 case online. There are quite a few of them from but I decided to look around on the SGP store. Luckily I found one – the SGP Crumena leather case for Samsung Galaxy S3.

There’s nothing fancy about the leather case. No special features or whatsoever. But still, the fact that it was made from genuine leather makes this case a must buy. It’s available in black white and brown, so you have three option and any color of  the case looks elegant and classy. The inner layer of the case is made from soft material that protects your device from scratches.

The SGP Crumena leather case for Samsung Galaxy S3 retails for $29.99 and it’s available now online from the SGP store.

First Impression, Samsung Galaxy S3 now running on Smart network

So finally, after 72 hours of waiting since I got hold of the Samsung Galaxy S3, and after several follow-up tweets with Smart Philippines Twitter account, the new plan that I’ve signed up for was activated. My device is now truly a Smart Galaxy S3 smartphone. So, how is it so far? Well, this is not really the first time that I have a Smart mobile plan. Prior to subscribing with Globe, I use to have a Smart account. But that was decades ago.

Now, I’m back with Smart and enjoying its high-speed connectivity  together with the high-processing power of the Smart Galaxy S3. To make an initial assessment of the Smart’s network speed, I check it up using the Android app. There result below.

As of 5:46 am, Marikina, Antipolo area.

As of 9:35 am, Ortigas, Mandaluyong Area

So far I’m loving the speed that Smart is giving my Smart Galaxy S3. It renders web pages faster than my Globe  iPhone 4S. But then of course, the iPhone 4S is on 3G network only. What’s good to note here is that so far, the phone’s signal rarely change to “3G” and remains to be on HSPA+ (H on the phone’s status bar).  This means that Smart’s 4G network is getting pretty stable lately.

Right  decision to get the Smart Galaxy S3 with Smart unlimited data plan indeed!

Samsung Galaxy S3 Review

Here you go folks. My review of the Samsung Galaxy S3 has been published at It’s the first version of the review and does not cover so many other things about the phone. I will come up with another version of the review catered to those who got the Smart Galaxy S3 and those who are planning to get it. Watch out for the second review especially since, my Smart Galaxy S3 is now running on Smart data network.

In the meantime, check out the Samsung Galaxy S3 review here.

Smart Galaxy S3 Unboxing and First Impression

The Samsung Galaxy S3,  in case you didn’t know has been launched by both Smart Philippines and Globe Telecoms last Friday. Smart followed it up with another special Smart Galaxy S3 event the following day, this time handing out the units of those who pre-ordered online. I’m not aware of what Globe did next after the launch on Friday but it looks like Smart PH outsmarted Globe this time when it comes to truly promoting the Samsung Galaxy S3.

Anyway, going back to the Smart Galaxy S3 that I got from Smart. I have the ceramic white since I think it’s the only model available right now. It was a blessing in disguise actually since I love the pristine-white look of the device. It could very well compete with my white iPhone 4S when it comes to look and appearance.

The Smart Galaxy S3 has the same all-white box of other latest Samsung flagship smartphones. Inside the box you’ll find the Samsung Galaxy S3 accessories which are pretty much what you’ll normally expect – USB cable, power adapter, printed guides, earphones. Nothing special on the accessories and everything are essential stuff that you’ll need to get you started using the phone.

Prior to getting the Samsung Galaxy S3, I’ve covered dozens of news about it and was aware of initial impressions about its form factor. Photos did not impress me that much and even thought to myself that it doesn’t look stunning at all. But I was wrong. The moment I hold the Smart Galaxy S3 in my hand, I was simply blown away by its beauty, lightness and sleek form factor and design.

Here you can see it side by side with the Samsung Galaxy Note and iPhone 4S

The Smart Galaxy S3 is one sexy gadget, period.

Ops! Sorry I got carried away again. To continue with the unboxing. Let’s look now at the different parts of the Smart Galaxy S3.

There’s the power button

The USB port

The 3.55 mm audio jack

The 8MP camera, LED flash, speaker and 2100 mAh battery

Overall, I’m very impressed with the look and feel of the Smart Galaxy S3. Samsung did it right this time, making its flagship smartphone appealing to both male and female users. The first Samsung Galaxy S was a bit too sexy for male users and then it became too manly in the Samsung Galaxy S2. This time around the Smart Galaxy S3 has that form factor that will cater to both sexes.

Of course, these are all about the look and feel. There is still the question of performance and usability. But I will save that for later as I’m still waiting for Smart PH to activate my new data plan (hurry please Smart). So, check back later for the full review of the Smart Galaxy S3.

Finally, for those who are planning to get the Smart Galaxy S3, it’s available from Smart PH under its Unli Plan 2000. As of this writing, it’s not yet available on prepaid and other data plans. The Smart Unli Plan 2000 comes with a 30 months lock-in period which is pretty fair since you’ll be consuming data anyway with the Smart Galaxy S3. I mean, that’s the only way you can enjoy this device or any other smartphones for that matter.

Note: Thanks to Smart PH for giving me a free Rocket Plug It, although I already have the Smart Bro Wi-Fi thingie, I’ll definitely find use for the Rocket Plug-it later on.

Smart launches the Samsung Galaxy S3 with Freebies Galore!

So I chanced upon the Smart-sponsored Samsung Galaxy S3 launch this morning at the Smart Jump Center. Actually, I was not invited in my capacity as a tech blogger. The reason I was there was to get the unit I pre-ordered online. I was supposed to get it tomorrow for the launch the the SmartGalaxyS3 to consumers but was lucky enough to be given the chance to claim it today instead.

Anyway, while waiting for my application for the Unli Plan 2000 for the SmartGalaxyS3 I was able to watch the event. It was fun and some well-known supporters of Smart were there such Maxene Magalona, Laureen Uy, Slick Rick and Mia Bayuga of Magic 89.9. Those personalities went home with a Samsung Galaxy S3 of their own. There were also some tech bloggers, and a couple of them were lucky enough to have won a unit of their own as well. The event was hosted by Sam YG and my favorite Magic 89.9 DJ next to MoTwister –  Andi Manzano.

To cut a long store short, I got my SmartGalaxyS3 (thanks for the help AbieReal!).

Will have an honest review of the Samsung Galaxy S3 as soon as I get to use the phone in the coming days. Besides, I’m still waiting for the activation of my new Smart Unli Data Plan. Hurry up please Smart.
