There you go Apple iPad fans in Manila. Apple has just announced the new lighter, thinner, and faster iPad 2. Based on the specs and features, the iPad 2 is definitely better and a worthy upgrade if you own the original iPad 2. For those who don’t mind importing the iPad from the U.S., the iPad 2 will be available on March 11, both from the online Apple Store and retail outlets in the U.S. It will be released in other countries on March 25 . So as not to keep you waiting, here are the new features and specs of the Apple iPad 2.
- 33 percent thinner and 15 per cent lighter than the original iPad 2. Same 9.7-inch LED-backlit LCD screen though. iPad 2 will be faster than the original iPad with its new dual-core A5 processor.
- two cameras, front-facing VGA for Facetime and Photo Booth, rear-facing that can capture 720p HD video
- 10 hours of battery life
- available in black or white
- AT&T and Verizon 3G models
- comes with iPad Smart Cover similar with the OEM Apple iPad Case but this time available in various funky colors
Sounds like a worthy upgrade indeed, right? Now the question is when it will be coming to Manila? Here’s what Apple has to say about the release of the iPad 2 in other countries:
iPad 2 will be available in Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Luxembourg, Mexico, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and the UK on March 25; and in many more countries around the world in the coming months. Further international availability and pricing will be announced at a later date.
Singapore and Hong Kong usually gets any Apple products months ahead of us here in Manila. If you notice, those two countries were not included in the second batch of countries which will be getting the iPad 2. So, let’s say they get included in the third batch of countries in a month or two (April or May), the Philippines will probably be included in the fourth batch which is most likely four months after the U.S. release. So, it is safe to say then that the iPad 2 will be available sometime around July in Manila, Philippines.
As for the iPad 2 prices, there will be 6 variants (12 if you consider the white iPad 2) available similar to the original iPad. The iPad 2 will be available 16GB, 32GB and 32GB Wi-Fi only versions and 16GB, 32GB and 64GB Wi-Fi + 3G models. Prices are as follow:
