One of the Best Careers for 2007 is - Librarianship
June 14th, 2007 | Filed under Library and Information Science.U.S. News released its list of Best Careers for 2007, and guess what? librarians are going to be one of the most sought after profession this year as the need for professionals that will help users navigate all the information online heightens.
Aside from the media-pay, the list also includes job market outlook, quality of life, attainability, prestige and typical degree requirements for the specific jobs.
The list also takes into account the trend among employers to outsource jobs that can be done more cheaply in low-cost countries like India and China.
This is the reason why computer-related jobs are no longer in the list since most of these jobs can already be done through “offshore sourcing”, a good example is network blogging and website development.
So, fellow librarians, you can sit back, relax and feel safe. Our profession is not extinct after all.
But then again, it would be a good time to rethink and reevaluate ourselves, if we are prepared for the challenge ahead - that of being the information navigator of these huge library right infront of us. Think about the skills and knowledge that we need in order to carry out the tasks demanded of our profession.
