Google Literacy Portal

Looks like Google is really out to win the hearts of the academe, scholars, librarians and other literacy advocates. After Google scholar, Google News, Google Books, comes a portal to host them all. Welcome The Google Literacy Project.

From the Google Literacy Project Portal:

A resource for teachers, literacy organisations and anyone interested in reading and education, created in collaboration with LitCam, Google, and UNESCO’s Institute for Lifelong Learning.

Looking at it plainly the Google Literacy Portal is a combination of various Google products which can be used to facilitate learning and literacy campaigns. In a way, the portal will serve as a promotional tool for Google to promote the use of its various products. The Google Literacy Portal has the facility to:

  • use the Book Search,
  • use the Google Scholar,
  • watch or share literacy videos,
  • find literacy organizations via Google Maps,
  • create a literacy blog,
  • create a literacy group via Google groups.

We will see in the coming days if this initiative would received significant interests among educators and educational institutions and find out how far this project would go.
