Yesterday, I was at the Music One shop in SM Megamall and noticed a slew of new releases from various Pinoy local bands displayed on the racks of the store. Looks like the pinoy music scene is getting much attention nowadays that record companies are on the run to distribute these bands’ album in the mainstream.Thanks to the entry of fairly new pop bands Hale, Cueshe, Sugarfree, and Orange and Lemons, the dying pinoy rock scene was given a new breathe of life that was being sustained by old favorites Parokya ni Edgar. Pinoy rock bands are springing up like mushrooms and this is evident in most of the record stores in the Metro. We now have bands such as Pupil, Urbandub, Rocksteddy, 6cyclemind, Spongecola, Up Darma Down, The Late Isabel, Cherry Cornflakes, Junior Kilat, Kapatid, Sandwich, Itchyworms, Kamikaze etc.

Do all of these bands have the talent to sustain them through years and years as what famous pinoy bands such as Eraserheads, Parokya ni Edgar, Rivermaya, Side A and Southborder did? Or will fans get saturated with pure, raw musicality that is being offered by these bands?

That we will have to know and  watch out for in the coming days. In the meantime you might want to check out the albums of Kamikaze and Urbandub. Their brand of music is different from all the rest. If you are an eighties fan, Orange and Lemons is the right band for you. As for the rest, buy their cd and listen at your own risk.
